Do Children Really Need Cell Phones?

Mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives today. Everyone, including young children, has one. Here, however, the question remains whether such a thing is appropriate. After all, it is recommended that children, especially young children, have less exposure to technology, which increases as they get older. Nonetheless, parents are allowing their children to have cell phones. Why is this?

The simple reason is worry and fear. By doing so, they can always be sure that their offspring are safe. And this is important to them. Because they believe that the world has become much more dangerous than it used to be. Of course, this is only partially true, but that does not preclude them from preferring not to be insured in this way. Furthermore, for the children themselves, it is convenient to be able to call them when they need help or happen to be somewhere else. Thus, it is clear that this is quite convenient.

On the other hand, it is also true that school teachers, for example, are against it. It is common for students to look at their cell phones instead of listening to class, and of course teachers do not want that. Therefore, some schools require students to leave their cell phones with their teachers when they arrive at school and pick them up when they leave. Yes, this is not a happy solution. Teachers should be able to draw attention to themselves. Unfortunately, they often do not.

So how can this be solved? Of course, it is understandable that parents want their children to be “on the go” at all times. However, that does not mean they need to give them the latest smartphones. It is counterproductive, especially for younger children. Instead, it is much better to buy them a classic, basic, push-button device. These are less expensive, and if the child loses or breaks it, nothing too bad will happen.

But at the same time, you have to know that there is a lot of pressure from classmates. Especially in the second grade, children can even be bullied for having an old cell phone. This is a problem that should be addressed primarily by the school, but in many cases it is not. Therefore, this should be taken into consideration when purchasing a cell phone.
